David Inshaw
David Inshaw was born in 1943 in Wednesfield, Staffordshire. In 1959-63 studied painting at Beckenham School of Art which led to a few years spent at Royal Academy Schools under Peter Greenham . During this time in 1964 David was awarded a French Government scholarship to study in Paris for six months. From 1966-75 taught painting and print making at West of England College, Bristol and held his first one-man exhibition at the Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol in 1969. In 1972, David formed an association with painters Graham and Ann Arnold, calling themselves the Broad Heath Brotherhood (after Elgar’s birthplace). He later, in 1975, joined with Peter Blake, Jan Haworth, Graham and Annie Ovenden and the Arnolds to form the Brotherhood of Ruralists. After resigning from his teaching post in Bristol in 1975, David was appointed Fellow of Commoner in Creative Art at Trinity College Cambridge. In 1976 Brotherhood of Ruralists held their first exhibition as a group at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. In 1983, David left the Ruralists. He currently lives and works in both Devizes, Wiltshire and London.
